Although this beautiful little vase was probably not made by him (not bearing his personal mark), it exemplifies that philosophy perfectly. The neat squaring up of the corners (making it almost an octagonal pot) and the gently incised decorative lines which emerge through the celadon glaze show care and precision and reveal the personality of the potter.

The pot is hand thrown in buff clay, hand shaped and decorated and finish in a celadon glaze which has fired a glossy grey-green with many internal bubbles. The vase was wood-fired in the St. Ives three chambered kiln. It bears the St. Ives mark and the England stamp on the foot-rim. It probably dates to about 1970, although it is not easy to date this type of ware.

https://chestersfarmgallery.com/products/st-ives-pottery-bernard-leach-studio-stoneware-bud-vase-celadon-glaze-c1970
