Antique Mintons 6 inch tile, Aesop's Fables, Thomas Allen design, c1872

Condition: Small flat chip to one corner (see image), otherwise very good

This tile is one from the series of twelve, based on Aesop's Fables, which Thomas Allen designed for Minton in about 1872. The design is transfer printed and here is is brown on a cream ground. The tiles were used for fireplaces, furniture etc.

The fable here is The Fox and the Goat in the Well.  The title of the fable is spelled out in the corner design.

The back of the tile has the classic Mintons China Works stamp.
