Crystalline glazed shallow studio pottery bowl by Matthew Blakely

Size:  15 cm across rim, 5 cm external depth.

Condition:  Excellent condition, no chips cracks or restoration.

This lovely little bowl is fired to stoneware with a high fired crystalline glaze on the inside, a pale glaze on the outside, applied in the style of ancient Chinese pottery. 

Matthew Blakely was born in the UK and had no contact with clay growing up. He was introduced to clay at evening classes while at university, which he enjoyed far more than his degree in medicine. Later he attended evening classes at Bondi beach in Australia, having emigrated there in 1988. He graduated in ceramics from the National Art School in Sydney and was awarded the State Medal in 1993.

Matthews passion is for glaze, and he even makes his own glazes and clay bodies from rocks which he crushes and mills.  This is very time consuming but Matthew views it as an important part of the process of making.
