Fred Cuming (1930-2022), one of the youngest painters ever elected to the Royal Academy, was a painter often seen as a successor to English Romantic painters such as Turner, working in a traditional manner but with a visionary eye.

Cuming also made prints, in limited editions and monotypes. This print was made in 1978 and is a drypoint engraving (on copper plate) with aquatint (a process which generates tone through using resist media and multiple etchings).  The print is signed in pencil by the artist and number 9 of an edition of 65.

The print is illustrated in the autobiographical book on Cuming, A Figure in the Landscape (2000).
