Condition: Excellent condition.
This is a lovely piece of salt glaze as you would expect from Rosemary Cochrane, a specialist in the technique. Rosemary's focus is on a decorative style, and this jug is generously painted with stylised designs in oxides and trailed slip. The inside is finished with a light brown slip which come to half way down the outside, and the bottom half of the jug is a warm orange.
Below the handle is Rosemary Cochrane's impressed mark and on the bottom her paper label.
Born in 1947, Rosemary Cochrane is the author of a book on salt glazed ceramics and set up the Saltglaze Workshop in Pontypool, Wales, in 1985. From 2002 she moved to Usk in Monmouthshire and has begun from about 2011 to explore new directions in paper clay and earthenware.
