Bridget Drakeford porcelain coffee pot, celadon & sang be boeuf glaze, 2000

Size: 23.5 cm to top of cane handle, teapot without lid 14 cm to rim, width of base 11 cm.

Condition: Very good condition. No chips cracks or restoration.

This is made in porcelain clay, the main body thrown and altered, and reduction fired with lovely glazes producing a variety of effects.

On the base, the potter has incised her signature and 2000, presumably the date.

Bridget Drakeford (born 1946) is a well established potter who has exhibited widely at major venues throughout Britain and Internationally.  Her first workshop was established in South West Scotland in 1977, and she moved in 1994 to Herefordshire, where she now has a studio at home. She works exclusively in porcelain, taking her inspiration from Far Eastern ceramics.  She was a prizewinner at the Mashiko Ceramics Competition in Japan, and at the World Ceramic Exposition in Korea. She won an Arts Council Award for an exhibition and study tour to Japan in 2005. She is a professional member of the Craft Potters Association of Great Britain.

Using reduction firings to produce both copper red (‘sang de boeuf’) and celadon glazes, Bridget uses an electric kiln as well at times, researching and making her own glazes based on those traditionally used in China.
