Size: 28 cm tall

This complex and unusual vase is the early work of Edith Rogers, a Doulton designer and decorator whose work is not often found, particularly as she only worked for Doulton for 7 years.

Her work also has a distinctive style, partly stemming from the fact that her father Alfred was a well-known wood-carver.  Here his influence is clearly shown, with the four panels being carved with swags of leaves and fruit very reminiscent of Grinling Gibbons.  The carved detailed is highlighted with small touches of pate-sur-pate.

The base of the vase is marked with Rogers' monogram, the stamped date and Doulton mark, and incised number 248 and two assistants' marks.
