Flying Saucer, large studio pottery enamelled and lustre porcelain vase, c1985

Size:  25.5 cm tall, maximum width of top 23 cm.

Condition: Excellent condition, no chips cracks or restoration. 

This slightly crazy colourful vase was made by Hilary Watters and David Symonds at the Flying Saucer.  It is signed on the bottom by the two potters.

The vase is cast porcelain with a white glaze with a crackle, overpainted with fired on enamel glazes in three colours and a bronze metallic lustre.

Watters and Symonds worked at Paul Cardew's Sunshine Ceramics until they founded Flying Saucer in about 1980.  They made some very funky ceramics, but mainly in pale single colours, and this vase is an unusually highly coloured piece and not a shape which I have seen elsewhere.
