Muchelney Leach Pottery wood fired studio pottery vessel by Steven Taylor, c2000

Condition: Excellent condition, no chips cracks or restoration.

This small deep sided serving dish is nicely potted and beautifully glazed in an ash glaze which has fired with a rich variety of colours in the wood fired kiln at Muchelney. The two sides of the pot are dramatically different in finish owing to the use of glaze and placement on the kiln. For the same reason the interior is different again, and lustrous brown/orange. The surface of the pot is silky smooth and lovely to the touch.

It has the Muchelney stamp and also the seal mark of Steven Taylor (born 1976), who worked at Muchelney from 1999 to 2002, before setting up his own pottery.

Muchelney Pottery was set up in 1965 by John Leach (1939-2021), eldest grandson of Bernard Leach. He designed what has become an iconic range of stoneware pots based on the simple strength of English country pottery. Many well known potters worked there at some point, benefiting from the huge skill and experience of John.  Although John has now died, the pottery continues to thrive.
