Simon Eeles, Shepherd's Well Pottery, large flattened stoneware vase, c1990

Size: 37 cm tall, width about 26 cm, depth about 11 cm

Condition: Excellent condition. On the side with green on a black ground, there are some lines in the black glaze but these are not from firing and not cracks.

This superb vase is partly thrown, partly handbuilt, the round central boss apparent made using a mould.  It's a complex piece, with  a Leach style pattern of leaves on the central panel, on one side painted onto the green glaze in a black glaze, and on the other repeated but using a resist method.  The vase is wood fired.

Simon Eeles is one of a family of potters who works with his brother Ben at the Shepherd's Well Pottery, which was set up by his parents David and Patricia in 1961 at Mosterton in Dorset. He makes in a variety of materials and styles, including raku as well as stoneware.
