Vintage studio pottery bowl William & Gaye Fishley Holland, signed & dated 1966

Condition:  Very good condition, no chips cracks or restoration.

This lovely and unusual bowl is signed and inscribed on the base "Made by W Fishley Holland, Carved by Gaye Fishley Holland, June 1966."

William Fishley Holland is the renowned potter who was the son of Devon potter Edwin Beer Fishley, and who moved in the 1920 to Sir Edmund Elton's Sunflower pottery before setting up on his own at Clevedon in Somerset.  He was joined at the pottery by his two sons, and in the 1960's they developed new glazes, including the lovely turquoise glaze shown on the bowl.

The most unusual feature of the bowl however is the carved frieze of Convovulus around the rim.  This was the work of William's wife Gaye, who did not make the pottery's production ware, but only contributed to individual pieces.  The carved rim is unglazed.

This is a really special item for a true Fishley pottery collector.
